I have two pair of these shorts now; any time I wear them, other girls compliment me on them. They have some stretch/give, but not much. I went up a size, usually wearing a 29 in stretchy type pants, so I ordered a 30 in these shorts. I'm honestly not sure a 29 would have fit, at least not comfortably. I am 5'4 and an athletic build. I love the high rise on them, but don't love the pockets on the back since my booty is pretty curvy. :)
